So there we have it I guess end of the road. The town does not want to help they say if they force or try to force the cable company to run cable down this stretch it will raise everyone who lives in this town that has cable would get an increase in their monthly bill. So housed 3 miles south of my house have cable and houses 3 miles north of my house all on the same road also have cable. I asked them if they were out of their minds and they said no that this is beyond their max limit of $3000 dollars they will pay to run cable. They said the cable ends 2.96 miles from my house and if I want cable I will need to pay a connection fee of $67,349 dollars to pay to run the cable to my house. Finally got the cable company to do another survey and they just got back to me. And if you can prove it meets density requirements as shown above, use that to your advantage.Ĭlick to expand.Just wanted to give update on this. If they city won't help you, start a PR campaign that complains about the cable company using poles that run past your house, but refuse you cable service based on an arbitrary criteria. OR, if you have 5 mouses in a half mile stretch, that also meets the density. Only you know the number of houses per mile on your road. The above does that, but assumes facts that may or may not be true. Come up with your own study and make it so it proves you meet the criteria - just as they came up with criteria that proves you do not. (you would need 30 houses in that 3 mile stretch.Īgain - dispute their math. If you have a three mile area where the houses at mile 1 and 3 meet the criteria +50%, then all three miles meet the criteria +0% if you take the average of those 3 miles. After all, is there a density provision below which taxes are not due? (didn't think so) Your taxes are paying for services you are not receiving (from the municipality). It may be several years until the contract comes up for renewal, but make sure they change it. If the cable company wants to serve the municipality, they will meet those terms. THEY set the terms of the contract with the cable company. They are blowing you off hoping you will shut up.
